What Customers Say About Samsung ML-1630 Monochrome Laser Printer:

The printing is very fast, and I have experienced no significant load time for graphics-heavy PDFs. I plugged it in, inserted the install disc (windows xp) and was printing in minutes. Seriously, I had one lying around but couldn't Samsung spring for the $2 it would cost to include one. I don't do a lot of printing, so laser was the only way to go (ink jets dry out). This was the smallest and one of the most reasonably priced printers I could find. I couldn't ask for more - except a USB chord in the box.

But here is the rub - my warranty on my replacement printer is SHORTER than on my original lemon. Samsung requires a fairly large printer driver program installation, which works fine under Windows 7, but it does suck up system resources. It is a work of art. It's not especially fast, but not a turtle, either.

Samsung authorized another repair and a different shop had the printer for about six weeks. When it stopped working with a bizarre error message, Samsung authorized a local repair. same exact problem. When I called Samsung, I got zero satisfaction on this issue. I got a new 1630, and it seems to work ok. But the print quality is average. I wrote the President of Samsung Electronics USA about a month ago about this and so far, not even a return call or contact of any kind.

When the printer was returned from shop number 2, guess what. Just average. At the end of my rope, Samsung agreed to replace the printer, but wouldn't guarantee that I would get another ML1630. It was in the shop for about two weeks, but when I got it home, it still didn't work.

The repair shop owner said that Samsung was horrible to get parts and repair authorization from, and pays starvation wages for his labor. they would just ship whatever they had in stock. I have a long memory for lousy customer service and it will be a cold day in a very warm destination before I buy any Samsung product again. The paper tray is tiny - much smaller than any personal printer I have owned.

I purchased this printer in October, 2009 and it worked ok for about three weeks. It STILL didn't work. The printer looks sleek.

I bought it because I didn't need all the bells and whistles; I need to print documents (invoices, NDAs, proposals, etc) plain and simple. It is minimalist in its looks, as well as in its features. I highly recommend it. Bought it for $99 at OfficeMax. Setup was a breeze on my Mac, and it prints documents quite faster than I was expecting. If you are looking to do anymore than that, I would look elsewhere.

This thing is a steal now. And I paid 75 more 2 years ago. Super easy installation (have a firewire. I have had absolutely no problems with this model. Flat top easy for stacking books/papers/folders. Lots of cheap off-brand ink cartridges out there that work PerFecTly.

Did i mention it looks like a Ps3.Cons: Limited features ( your stuck with shades of black and white), small paper reserve ( not a big deal, considering the easy paper load). So, if your just going to be printing out simple papers and notes, this thing is it. Sure there has been a paper jam or two ( no. Pros: Sick design. done son). really, no more than 2 in two years), but both times I was using less-than-optimum used scratch paper. I have had this printer for almost 2 years now.

It usually prints on this stuff no problem other than those exceptions. Super easy paper load.

Quality of print has been just fine. Recommended. There is a built-in printer problem diagnostic in the software that might be useful someday when something goes wrong but I was not able to get that diagnostic to work across our at-home network. Clearing out the jam took a while but then going back to regular paper resulted in no further problems. Be aware that you should not expect to use a range of paper in this machine. I have used this printer now for about a month and find it to be reliable and quiet. I use standard 20 lb generic laserjet paper with no problem but a one-time shift to heavier stock resulted in an immediate paperjam. I am experiencing success with both Windows XP and Windows 7.
